(dragon fruit, my love!)
Whatever the issue whether its depression, weight gain, allergies- I truly believe the answer can almost always be found in what we eat. These are are acouple of tips that really do work wonders-So.... Lets get started!!
A lot of cravings come from being nutrient starved- Maybe everything in your life is going great (meaning it's not psychological/ emotional eating) and yet you find yourself inhaling a box of chocolate chip cookies. Your body doesnt need the empty cookie calories- but not having enough nutrients can still trigger you body to eat calorie rich foods by the handful. Not good for your waistline or your mind.
Ways to fix this:
1. Invest in a high quality whole food derived (made from food, not synthetic nutrients) vitamin- my personal favorite is Source of Life
2. Make your own juices. It can be hard to squeeze in all of your daily greens- an easy way to do it is to juice your own. Be sure to drink within 20 minutes as most of the live enzymes die within that period. Stay away from the canned and bottled stuff as theyre loaded with sodium, sugar and preservatives.
3. Green smoothies
4. FIBER RICH FOODS AND SUPPLEMENTS including Gluccoman- check out these articles: http://weight-loss.emedtv.com/weight-loss/glucomannan-for-weightloss.htmlhttp://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6096282, ,
Nutiva Hemp protein powder is a new love of mine. The chocolate flavor with a splash of almond milk is 80 nutrient dense calories with 50% of your fiber needs and hemp (not just for hippies anymore) is a great vegetarian source of EFA's, hemp is also a great complete protein with all of the essential amino acids. high fiber foods along with exercise have been shown to increase metabolism and digestion- great for a flat stomach and reducing insulin levels which in turn reduces belly fat.
6. Lemon water- a great detoxifier. It helps to purify your liver and kidneys helping your body to run more efficiently- also helps you release retained water.
7. Depression and psychological cravings have been shown to be associated with low levels of a brain chemical known as serotonin. Ways to increase serotonin can include nutrition and exercise, but supplementation too. 5 HTP has been found in various studies to be more effective than prescription SSRIs. Ive used it before to improve my mood and the results were night and day- this isnt something to take lightly- its a very powerful supplement. But it's also helpful to explore where these feelings are coming from- maybe your feelings are telling you it's time for a change. Also, do not take 5htp with other medications that effect serotonin becaus ethis can make you very ill!!
8. Feel free to add in superfoods!! Acai, Goji, noni, mangosteen, mushrooms (reishi, maitaki)-
As Hippocrates said 'If youre not your own doctor your a fool'
~
'Let thy food be thy medicine'
This being said, remember I am not a doctor. Im a student- these things have worked for me but please research for yourself.
